Healing the Emotion-Body Connection with Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki is holistic hands-on or off-energy healing practice that is not attached to any religion or belief system. It is a practice that is centered around the idea that we are beings made up of diverse, interacting energy fields, all of which respond to our state of health, our choices, and even our thoughts, lifestyle, and environment. Our various energy systems will constantly go up and down due to our ever-changing environments and experiences and Reiki helps us to stay balanced.

Reiki harmonizes and supports the flow of energy through chakras during the session. It balances extremes and allows you to remain relaxed and receptive throughout the session. If you are ready to address the issue on a deeper level, some Reiki practitioners will also add the power of crystals. The crystal’s energy vibration flows into the subconscious emotional body, getting to the root cause of the imbalance and keeps the individual grounded.

Just like all therapy, Reiki is not a one-time healing experience. Emotional healing takes time. The beauty of experiencing Reiki at Serenity Trauma Center is that clients are offered a whole support system for healing to take place and well-being to be restored.

What are Chakras?

Chakras are energy points that exist in every human body and animal. They are also referred to as the wheel of life. Chakras are responsible for the function of our entire being, meaning: the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual parts of ourselves. My mentor and teacher Krista Mitchell describes it beautifully in her book: “Because chakras are energy and energy is constantly moving, maintaining a balanced system is a matter of daily practice and lifelong choices, as opposed to a net or end result or even an ideal state.”

Two chakras are especially important to me as a woman. These are the Root Chakra and the Sacral chakra.

The Root Chakra (Muladhara) is located at the bottom of the spine. It represents life, physical vitality, birth, and creation. It contains the energy supply to the spine, kidneys, bladder, and suprarenal glands.

The Sacral Chakra (Swadhisthana) is located 2 inches below the navel. It represents sexual energy, perceptions, and first impressions of people. It contains the energy supply to the reproductive organs, legs, and glands.

These two chakras are extremely powerful and important to me as a woman who has lived through childhood traumas and abuse in adult life. Women are creators. We bring new life into this world. This article is intended to give language to the emotion-body connection and to emphasize the importance of healing the feminine parts and the womb. Below we delve further into the connection between these two chakras and emotional well-being.

Root Chakra

The Root chakra is associated with the earth element. The color red represents passion, strength, and fire. This chakra is related to our basic needs, such as food, shelter, protection, and survival instinct. This chakra is notably related to family relationships, comfort, career, financial stability, achievements in the material world, strength of character, patience, endurance, and safety.

A blockage in the Root chakra means that energy flow is deficient or excessive, which can cause any of the difficulties listed below and can also result in physical, mental, emotional illness.

A healthy balanced Root Chakra means our immune system is healthy and is functioning properly, family and cultural relationships are solid, the individual is capable of physical activity, exercise, and can take action to defend themself. A balanced Root chakra allows individuals to remain grounded and present.

Levels of physical endurance, strength, health, weight, and vitality are met. The Increase of confidence and enthusiasm that comes from having a balanced Root Chakra helps to perform all tasks in life. When our Root chakra is balanced, we can manage conflicts and problems with a calm and constructive mind.

Sacral Chakra

The Sacral chakra is associated with the element Water. The color orange represents pleasure and abundance. This chakra regulates our sense of sexuality, sensuality, intimacy, ability to nurture, and social desire. It is the source of our desires, passions, creative and emotional energy, and influences our ability to experience and share pleasure. It is also responsible for producing joy, ambition, self-love, and healthy relationships.

Harmful damage is done to this chakra when someone engages in means of taking revenge, expressing too much power, pressure, and suppressing someone else with their sexual desires.
